Trekking at Punta Licosa

This is a fabulous trekking excursion from Ogliastro Marina to San Marco di Castellabate via Punta Licosa … through a land of legends and myths with enchanting and breathtaking scenery!

The promontory of Punta Licosa is the point where the Cilento juts into the sea, with its soft sea breezes that blows through the trees making them dance.

The name comes from the myth of Ulysses, according to which this is the exact spot where the siren Leucosia drowned for love of Ulysses.

When the sky is clear there’s a marvellous view from the Amalfi Coast to Palinuro.

Bright limpid skies in winter and blossoming broom bushes in spring, this trekking route is beautiful in any season.

Affondatore di Vallivona trekking in Cilento National Park

The trekking path takes its origin from the mountain near Hell’s Bridge at an altitude of 550 m. It continues on a dirt track along the River Bussento. After about 1 km the path starts going uphill through a black hornbeam wood brining us to a flat section of the trail where we can turn our glaze to the rocky cliffs of the Bussento Riverbed. Walking along a still untouched vegetation we’ll arrive to the sources of the Bussento River which arise within a cave from where part of the spring water is captured thanks to the construction of an aqueduct. The path ends at the entrance of a 500 m. long tunnel which we will go along with the help of our flashlights. Once inside the sinkhole there is a perception of its greatness, its elliptical shape and the high value of its natural environment. The grey limestone has been excavated by the waters of the stream that drains the entire Valley of Vallivona generating a modest but interesting waterfall. The return excursion takes place using the same route.This is on of the most interseting walking and hiking excursions in the National Park of Cilento, Southern Italy.

The Emmisi Gorge – Excursion in the National Park of the Cilento

Just a few kilometres from the village of Rofrano, where, concealed by the dense woodland of oaks and alders, the river Mingardo has produced, over the millennia, one of the most fascinating natural formations of the entire National Park of the Cilento and Vallo di Diano: the Emmisi Gorge. About 500 metres long, the gorge is characterised by pools of various sizes set between walls of rock 30 metres tall and roofed over by a green vault made of centuries-old trees. The trek includes a crossing of the gorge with a dinghy “piloted” by our guide Carlo, where the water’s deepest and the lasting emotions you feel when you plunge into the river between the tall silent overhanging walls of rock are indescribable and unforgettable. The excursion continues with a short trek to a picnic place for a delicious barbeque, then it’s back on the trail again across an interesting natural setting of the National Park of the Cilento, one of the most beautiful in all southern Italy

Alta Via del Monte Stella

This route follows the crest of Mount Stella and is one of the principal mountain paths of the area.
The excursion can be started in the town of Montecorice,more precisely in the village of Cosentini or Ortodonico, or in the town of Perdifumo. Starting from Cosentini you will pass through an area called “ Montanari” reaching the country road.Starting from Perdifumo instead, you will follow the crest of Punta Carpinia until reaching the equipped area of Monte Corbara. The path will bring you from here through a wooden area along the crest and offers many panoramic views. You will be able to observe “ Mount Cervati”, the “ Alburni”, but also Cape Palinuro, the gulf of Salerno and the Amalfi coast.
This itinerary, which offers a landscape painting of rare beauty, also has e rich historical background.Along the way you will see the ruins of the “ Castelluccio” and the Chapel of the “ Madonna della Stella” whose cult dates back to the pre-Christian age.
Walking down from Mount Stella ,through a beautiful wood you’ll reach the so called “ Vivaio” an quipped area, ideal place for some relax.
